oh la la

I think I have fallen in love with a planter. Ridiculous? YES, but look at those lines. Sitting on this splurge for a couple of days before taking the plunge. Do you do that? I like to see how many times a certain item pops in my head during a day. If it's a lot then I'll buy it knowing I will love it. If not then I know it would have been an impulse buy and more than likely regret it. This one has me seeing hearts today though!

A Simple DIY & Another Home Depot Challenge

Today I am over on the Home Depot Apron blogsharing my next challenge, DIY outdoor games! I must say this challenge was REALLY quite the challenge since when we shot the DIY we were still living out of suitcases, hopping house to house. Our old home flooded and our new home was not ready for us. It was fun none the less and I am sure our game will bring us joy and sweet memories years to come. One of the biggest challenges though was not having any of my "styling" goodies with me. Everything was packed away and some stuff ruined. I knew the game itself needed "more" for the photographs. Yes, we did have a fun get together, but let's be honest the pictures need to look good too. HA. That is where a simple and inexpensive DIY picnic blanket came into play.

I bought a 5x5 dropcloth from Home Depot and picked Martha Stewart Terra Rosa as my stripe color. The best part of using the drop cloth is that it is lightly lined with plastic on the underside so as in this case dew can not seep through.

We used a small roller to first make the stripes. I used the fold lines as a guide. KJ then followed with a foam brush to fill in the missed spots. I did not want the stripes to be perfect, but to mimic one of my long time favorite tablecloths that is way out of budget.

So simple really, but we have used it often since the original shoot.

Hope you will visit my Home Depot challenge! It was tons of fun.

It only took me 6 years to get the back yard to where I love it. HA. It took many mistrials and making my once black thumb green. The kitchen garden is just starting to fill in so I will share that later along with my wall of limelight hydrangeas. They are much prettier once in bloom. The pergola my papa built really made our yard come to life. It gave our basic box some character. He built it back in August and with the spring season I knew I wanted to put it to good use. After pricing out larger outdoor sofa's I soon came to realize we could not afford one so my papa came to the rescue and made me one! It's perfect for napping. Most everything else I had or repurposed in some way. The hammock swings on the play set are quite a hit still and I find myself using them too. Currently the wooden swings are simply wrapped around the top of the set, but the Mr had to help me with that and did not do so till after I took the pics. The roses are iceburg climbing roses that I have had for 3 or so years now. I think by this time next year they will start to cover the pergola and add some more shade. The petals do rain down, but I rather like the fairytale of it all.
